Short-Term Course in preparation of Reports


Summary

This course is designed by the British Academy for Training and Development to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to write professional and scientific reports that conform to traditional formulas, and deliver the key message effectively and efficiently.

All employees in all locations need to develop communication skills. Reports are a written communication skill. Writing reports is urgent in our time. Whether you are a student, an employee, a politician, a journalist or otherwise, you need to write a report to your subordinate or someone in your department. The report requires an understanding of the basics and rules of writing the report.

Objectives and target group

Employees who have been selected by the management to write reports and need to develop their writing skills in order to improve their contribution to the work.

How will participants benefit from the course?

After completing the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understanding different types of reports, especially analytical reports that require research.
  • Learn how to interpret terms of reference and answer summaries
  • Understand the different stages of the reporting process, and the ability to apply them frequently.
  • know the key elements of reports and how they are usually arranged.
  • Know the method, time, and formality to be used, and how these elements are affected by the different audience receiving the report.
  • Writing a long analytical report (scientific or professional) in response to a reliable summary by the co-executive director or supervisor (Which must be given to the applicant at least three days before the beginning of the course).

First Unit

- Overview of types and purposes of reports.

- Use a functional approach to writing reports.

Second Unit

- Planning the report

- Study the terms of reference.

- Determine the audience and purpose.

- Collecting information.

- Organizing the facts.

- Analysis and interpretation of data.

- Writing the report in an effective way.

- Format the report and insert images professionally.

- Edit and review the report.

Third Unit

Writing an effective reports

- Contents of the reports

- Main Sections and Sub-Sections

- Language and style (paragraphs - terms of link - time)

Fourth Unit

- Formatting and inserting images

- Exploitation of empty spaces efficiently.

- Using printer comfortably for sight in order to be read easily.

- Format tables and comments.

- Choose the appropriate images, charts and maps.

Fifth Unit:

- Modify and review the report in an effective way.

- Checklists and evaluation forms for review.
